El joven Jeremías crece en la familia de un sacerdote en un pueblo cerca de Jerusalén. Dios se le aparece en varias ocasiones y le ordena que anuncie su mensaje al pueblo de Jerusalén: un poderoso gobernante del norte destruirá el Reino de Judá si la gente sigue adorando ídolos. Nadie cree a Jeremías, y lo acusan de blasfemia. Sin embargo, Baruc, un escriba del templo, se convierte en su discípulo. Con su ayuda, el profeta difundirá el mensaje de Dios, que sólo es rechazado por la casta sacerdotal y por el Rey.
